RED POLL CATTLE SOCIETY

The Society created new categories of Student and Junior membership a few years ago to encourage young people to become more involved with Red Polls and to take the Society forward into the future.

Our Student and Junior Members take part in Young Handlers events which are increasingly held at shows and special events organised by the Society. In particular, the Young Handlers and Young Stockpersons events at the Suffolk Show and the Royal Show have proved very popular. It is proposed to promote these events at as many shows throughout the country as possible, giving young members a chance to participate locally.

• The Society’s Calf Show has proved popular amongst the young members, with many participating in the Young Handlers and Young Stockpersons competitions, with cups and prizes awarded.
• The Suffolk and Royal Shows also have established Young Handlers classes, again with prizes being awarded.
• The Suffolk Agricultural Society’s School Farm Fair is another excellent venue to show our Red Polls to schoolchildren in the area.
• Each year a Field Day is held at a member’s herd, to which all members are invited, and which is always a great social event
• In addition, the Society run Workshops on topics such as selection of finished beasts, AI techniques,fertility and judging, again open to all members
• Regional Events are arranged throughout the UK so that members and their families can get to know others in their area
• Student Members are entitled to register two females in the Society’s Herd Book, subject to the Society’s rules

All members receive regular issues of ‘Red Poll News’, keeping them up-to-date with events in the Society and the Red Poll community.
