This years herd competion was very well supported with a great variety of different farming systems on show, proving that the Red Poll is a very versatile breed!
Thanks must go to the judges who covered huge areas in each region and to Philip Ryder-Davies who then had to go round each area to find the overall herd winner.
The large herd winner and overall winner was Mark Martin and family with The Lawford Herd, and the small herd winner was Rebecca Charley with The Ruscombe Herd.

Lound Lakes nature reserve is the most northerly point in the county. In June swathes of sheep's sorrel turn the fields russet red and skylarks sing. It's a remote but wonderful outpost of beautiful watery scenery and a surprising wildlife. And part of that wildlife is dependent on the daily ruminations of a herd of Red Poll cattle owned by Sarah Barnes from Hall Farm, Tasburgh.

This years Royal Norfolk Show was a hot one!
Well done to all who entered and had to persuade their cattle to come out of the shade and parade on the sunny side.
Thanks to our Judge Mr Cheetham who stood in the full sun and did a great job selecting some very close classes.

The Melton Mowbray 13th National Native Breeds Show and Sale is now open for entries.
Grassroots are doing the administration for us so entries must be made through them.
Schedules can be downloaded and entries made on the web site www.grassroots.co.uk/melton.html
Closing date for paper entries is 2nd August and for on line entries is the 9th August
This is a breed society event. All exhibitors must be members of the relevant society and all entries must be fully registered.
Cattle can be entered for the sale alone and need not be halter trained but must be in a clean and presentable condition.
As a Society we have decided that all stock entered must be inspected prior to the sale. This will be carried out by the Regional Field Officers, so if you are putting stock into the sale please let them know or contact me so that I can let the relevant one in your area know.
The Society membership have asked for this event so please support it.
