Hertfordshire Show – 2025 – Judge, Anthea Daw
Judge’s report
Firstly I would like to thank the Hertfordshire Show along with the Red Poll Cattle Society in giving me the opportunity to Judge the Red Poll cattle at the 2025 show, unfortunately there wasn’t a great deal of entries this year but it still doesn’t take away from the stock brought forward for me to judge. I would also like to thank Joy for her company and professionalism’s as acting ring steward, and not forgetting the exhibitor and students of Capel Manor College for all their hard work and dedication to the breed.
In calf cow or heifer
1st Capel Manor Enya
2nd Capel Manor Madame Mayhem
I pulled Capel Manor Enya into the top of the line-up, an in milk cow with a well grown calf at foot, this cow I have had the privilege to judge over several years and she is still as good now. She has show-presence when walking into the ring, Longevity is what the Red Poll cattle are all about.
Heifer
1st Capel Manor Nellie
Bull born before 01/01/2024
1st Capel Manor Matrix
2nd Capel Manor Narco
Pair of Animals
1st Capel Manor Nellie & Capel Manor Madame Mayhem
2nd Capel Manor Enya & Caple Manor Matrix
When Asked to Judge a pair of animals I am looking for a uniform pair, same size, length colour and confirmation. This pair of heifers ticked all the boxes for me on the day.
Female Champion
Capel Manor Enya
Capel Manor Nellie (Reserve)
Capel Manor Enya just caught my eye when entering the ring, as I mentioned before she is had the presence when walking, Just A good example of the breed.
Male Champion
Capel Manor Matrix
Capel Manor Narco (Reserve)
The bull-forward today didn’t disappoint, he was masculine, more powerful in the front end, a strong and level top line and good over the rump, he had a lovely tail setting, walk freely on a great set of feet and legs. Again a good example of the breed.
Overall Breed Champion and reserve
Capel Manor Matrix
Capel Manor Enya
It was an absolute pleasure judging the classes of Red Poll cattle at the Hertfordshire Show.
